Having healthy teeth is very important, as that’s the part of you that most people will see the minute you open your mouth to speak. If you have beautiful, well-cared for teeth, your image will be professional and attractive. If your teeth are in poor health, your image will be less than desirable. Caring for your teeth is actually fairly simple, but it just requires time to form a few simple habits. Here are some of the best tips to help you keep your teeth healthy:
1. Stick with a single toothpaste – The truth is that one type of toothpaste will probably have the best results for your teeth, but you have to find what that one is. Find the toothpaste that will clean your teeth as efficiently as possible, that has an enjoyable flavor, and that will make them as white as possible. Once you find the toothpaste that works, stick with it.
2. Brush immediately after eating – If you brush your teeth immediately after you eat, you’ll find that your teeth will have no chance of developing cavities. The reason for this is that your teeth will not have any bits of food stuck in them – food that bacteria love to grow on. Brushing regularly will ensure that your teeth are clean, and it will prevent gingivitis, plaque, and all those other things that can impair your dental health.
3. Stop smoking – Smoking is absolutely terrible for your health, but it will do damage to your teeth and mouth as well. The particles of nicotine in the cigarettes will cling to your mouth, and will coat it with a surface that bacteria will cling to – leading to possible infections and bad breath. It will also stain your teeth yellow, and that stain cannot be removed just by brushing. If you want pearly whites, you have to quit smoking.
4. Floss daily – Flossing once a day or more is highly recommended, and it’s key to good oral health. Flossing will help to get that food from between your teeth, food that your toothbrush just won’t be able to get at. It may be a bit painful to floss at first, but your teeth will eventually separate enough that you will be able to floss easily. Flossing also helps to strengthen your gums, so it’s a very good idea to floss at least once a day.
5. Don’t forget your tongue – When you brush your teeth, do you pay attention to your tongue? Many people forget to brush their tongue as well, which means that all of the food stuck between the tiny taste buds on your tongue will stay there. You should try and use a tongue scraper when you’re brushing your teeth, as that will ensure that you get all of the junk from your tongue as well. It will not only leave your mouth and teeth cleaner, but it will help to improve your breath as well.
6. Use mouthwash regularly – Even if you don’t have the time to brush your teeth, you can rinse your mouth using a simple mouthwash like Listerine. These mouthwashes won’t kill off all the bacteria, but it will improve your breath, flush out a lot of the junk in your mouth, and ensure that your teeth are cleaned. If you get the mouthwash that has alcohol, it will work wonders at killing off the bacteria that can cause dental problems like gum infections.
7. Eat right – Eating the right foods is key to the health of your teeth. Calcium is needed by your teeth to produce the enamel that protects it, so make sure that you get enough calcium in your diet – in the form of milk, yoghurt, cheese, broccoli, or colloidal minerals. Vitamin C is also important, and you should try to avoid sugary foods as much as possible.
8. Reduce whitening – Teeth whitening uses peroxide to bleach the teeth, but white doesn’t necessarily mean healthy. If you spend too much time whitening your teeth, you’ll find that the surface of your teeth is likely to be weakened. Only whiten your teeth once or twice a year, and avoid whitening them too much to the point that your teeth’s external protection is weakened.
